A Legend – Breeze-ruffled Lotus in Four Seasons in Quyuan Garden, West Lake

China National Silk Museum

China National Silk Museum
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

The freehand splash-ink technique in traditional Chinese painting is employed to create patterns of lotus flowers and lotus seedpod in this flared silk dress. Different shades of red, orange and pinkish grey are painted and embroidered by hand on the fabric, recreating the elegant forms of breeze-ruffled lotus and its reflections in the lake in the Quyuan Garden at dusk.
