A small white dog crouches on the vine framing the top of this calendar page for the month of May. Other painted details help to enliven the page. Enclosed in a small architectural structure at the bottom, a man rides on a splendid horse. A hawk perches on the strong leather glove the rider wears fro protection on his left hand. Hunting with a trained hawk was a pleasure reserved almost exclusively for the nobility, was an activity commonly associated with the month of May.
