Portsmouth, Dover & York 108 (NH-ME) at Seashore Trolley Museum
During its long history #108 carried U.S. Mail between the post offices on its route, with a postal clerk onboard to sort mail between stops. The car even had a mail slot on each side so that people could meet the car to deposit their outgoing mail. During this time period, many intercity passenger trains also had Railway Post Office cars that likewise carried mail from one post office to the next along its route.
