The origin of this saucer was a lid of a writing box. People in the old days sometimes placed confectioneries, nuts and fruits on a lid of writing box replacing a saucer. After that, people made the lid as a saucer for foods and it became popular in the Edo period. It has Makie design of bright colored mandarin ducks on black lacquer.
