BRITAIN'S "WINE CELLAR" - THE LONDON DOCKS.
MJH/HT.
The British people are drinking more wine these days, proved by the fact that so far this year, with the festive season still to come, Britain's wine cunsumption is 10 per cent higher than last year. Sherry is almost back to pre-war popularity - this year's consumption has risen to 80 per cent of the 1939 level. This rising demand means that the London Docks are becoming more and more Britain's wine cellar with the bonded
vaults and warehouses doing a "roaring trade". This country still imports most wine from France Spain and Portugal, followed by Germany, South Africa, Italy and Australia.
