"THE FORGE OF GREAT EXPECTATIONS" DG/PRI Blacksmithing is a man's job, and MR A.J. MANN (67) has been doing at Chalk village, Gravesend, for more than half a century. His forge is the original of Joe Gargery's forge in "Great Expectations" (where the convict had his chains struck off). The forge was built 200 years ago and still has most of its original brickwork and timber. Many of the smithy irons have been in use since Dicken's day, and Mr MANN has "great expectations" of working on shoeing for many a year. FOX PHOTOS March 28th 1950 421780-1-2
