Modernism and its most vanguard attitudes at no time oriented Eduardo Viana's practise. However, his liking of experimentation, which was stimulated by the Delaunays and Amadeo, would influence some of his work during the 1920's. A Revolta is an extreme example, and one the best achieved during this phase, which marked the passing of the values of the 1800's. Traditional painting's suggestion of depth disappeared on the account of the conscious occupation of the surface of the canvas, where orphic circles function as elements of composition rather than as dynamic elements of the decomposition of light. The distribution of colour privileges simultaneous contrasts in an empiric assimilation of theory by Robert Delaunay, who lived with his wife Sónia Terk and Eduardo Viana in Vila do Conde at the time.
