Banglanatak
Kolkata, West Bengal, India

Traditionally, the Tangsas live in stilted houses made of bamboo, wood and 'toko' leaves (used to make thatched roof). The front portion of their house has an open porch-like structure, leading to a room with a fire place in the middle. This hearth is used for cooking. The vapour rising from the fire is essential to protect the natural house-construction materials of bamboo and leaves from degeneration.
