Soldiers have always occupied themselves with handicraft, sometimes to alleviate boredom and sometimes to mend their equipment or to earn money on the side. This basket was made by a wounded German soldier at the Sophienhaus hospital in Weimar. It was bought by Beata von Eckermann and given to Wilhelmina von Hallwyl in September 1917.
