This is a large painting of a ravine drenched in the colors of advancing fall. The steep rocky mountainside tells the story of a landscape that was carved over a period of many years. A woodcutter can be seen walking on the narrow path along the river, obviously homeward-bound after his work in the mountains is done. A popular motif in Japanese painting through the ages, here the scenery is depicted implementing such rather modern characteristics as an elevated perspective.
