In the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, a worker on an access platform in High Bay 1 is spotter for space shuttle Atlantis as the crawler-transporter prepares to carry it to Launch Pad 39A. First motion out of the bay was at 6:38 a.m. EDT Oct. 14. The 3.4-mile trip, known as rollout, is expected to take about six hours.
