After he inspired awe in the Cardinal Riario with the Sleeping Cupid, Michelangelo was invited in Rome in June 1496. During the following year he realised for the same patron a second work, identified with the Bacchus now in the Bargello museum, later sold to Iacopo Gallo. In this letter to his father, dated 1th July 1497, Michelangelo refers to some works executed for the cardinal, of which he attends the payment before to get back to Florence.
