One of the reasons Christopher Cozier (b. 1959, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) is considered one of the most relevant Caribbean artists of his generation is the mixture of simplicity and complexity in his works. With a series of human figures with raised arms, moving legs, and delicate, wobbly objects, Cozier portrays human fragility. As art critic Alexandra Dodd puts it, "his subtle images invite you into a space where he asks pointed but humble questions about humanity, about where you stand, or fall."
Christopher Cozier lives and works in Trinidad as a writer and an artist. His writing on Caribbean art has been published in journals in both North and South America. Cozier’s work in mixed media involves video and live performance, and installations include drawings, constructions, and appropriated objects. Cozier’s more recent shows presented a series of large mixed media drawings treating issues of migration and development.
