This highly organic painting seems to draw inspiration from Japanese woodcut traditions and the silvered copper plates of early Daguerroetypes. The tendrils curve across the canvas depicting the past with different identities, opportunities, futures and paths cut short by Daesh’s occupation of Mosul and the ensuing violence, brutality and despair. The darkness of these thwarted memories is balanced by the light and green hues of hope.
