This was presented to Thomas Edison by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences inviting Edison to accept the distinction of being The First Honorary Member of the Academy", To which he was elected October 15, 1929. The signatures of 239 "hereunto subscribed members of the Academy" more or less well known names in Motion Pictures, headed by Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin - surround the lettering of the diploma, and literally fill the 17" x 23" engraved and illuminated parchment.
