This assortment of pottery shards and metal pieces are just a few of the fragments unearthed during excavation at Monroe's birthplace at Monroe Hall, Westmoreland, Virginia. The items include the bottom of a glass bottle, the blue-painted rim of a china plate, a knife blade, a glass bottle-stopper and a metal plaque decorated with the Monroe family crest.
