Hua Li's proposal explores the performative dimension of rituals - conducts of use and habit - that endow the spatial and material qualities of the 'house' with the personal meaning of 'home'. The House of Spontaneity delves into the ways individuals' life styles
and routines of habitation shape in fact its very definition, and does so by looking at the constitutive relations among people, modes of living and interiors systems. What constitutes the very essence of home nowadays? The Chinese term zi zai(自在) used in the Chinese title of the project and translated in English as 'spontaneity', is an expression borrowed from Taoism which signifies the most natural state of existence.
