This relief was part of the lost Santiago Cathedral Paradise Facade, which was replaced by the current Azabachería Facade in the mid-18th century. Many of the pieces that formed the facade were reused. However, the "Reprimand of Adam and Eve" (which would have been accompanied by the "Expulsion from Paradise" now located on the Platerías Facade) passed into private ownership, and was discovered in 1900 in a house in the Pitelos area of Santiago.
Most researchers believe the piece was made by the so-called "Maestro de la Traición" (Master of Betrayal).
