Very early in life Ny revealed her passion for the arts. Her academic and professional career is testimony to this. As a high school teacher, taught the discipline of Technological Education. The school spaces became her "laboratories" where even today we can see its marks in her artworks.
Her style is markedly figurative, something abstract, but always Expressionist. Sometimes the shapes, instead of being exactly reproduced, suffer distortions that change what you might call aesthetic purity. Although she diversifies her works, it always pervades a certain fascination with Cubism.
This painting was done under the theme of “Guimarães - European Capital of Culture – 2012” and portrays the King Afonso Henriques, the greatest symbol of the cradle city, where Ny Machado was born. It is a tribute, highlighting the first king of Portugal, in the context of other heritage references, like the wall alluding to the foundation of nationality and the Historical Center, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, in 2001.
