Agave lechuguilla is a variety of succulents relative to the maguey. It has sharp leaves with thorns on the tips that can reach nearly two inches long. It is unique to the Chihuahuan Desert and grows on the mountain slopes. It takes the plant up to 15 years to store enough food to flower and then dies.
