As a young artist Broota was a witness to torment, distress and anguish in the society and such themes were forcefully expressed in his earlier works.
He developed a new technique of subtraction whereby he built his canvas layer by layer with monochromatic hues and then painstakingly scratched away the paint surface to reveal the layers below. It is almost as though he excavates the subject from the paint layers until it revealed itself.
His creation of nuanced tones and textures brings the element of human existence into sharp focus.
