Hunting scenes were the subject of this coving as well as the three others of the Diana Salon. Alexander the Great is depicted on horseback in a violent lion hunt. This episode is probably inspired by the story in the Life of Alexander by Plutarch and illustrates the emperor’s affection for this activity.
