Born 1852 in Prag, the gifted composer and pianist Alfred Grünfeld was discovered at a young age and moved to Vienna, where a became a popular musical quest to the local aristocracy. In 1876 he was made Court Pianist to the Emperor and extensively traveled throughout the northern hemisphere. In 1899 Grünfeld became the first pianist of note, to make gramophone recordings.
