Aliya (Wall niche)

In Shekhawati, the groom nails a toran above the entrance door of the bride’s house after the wedding. Traditional motifs are painted around the toran and the aliya using vermillion paste. A toran was placed in this aliya built into the front facade of a haveli in Mandawa.
