Aliyah from the Soviet Union

The fall of the Iron Curtain allowed the Jews of the former Soviet states to immigrate to the Jewish homeland.
The State of Israel, headed by Yitzhak Shamir, had to face the challenge of finding work and housing for hundreds of thousands of these new immigrants.
