Arthur Ashe, Althea Gibson, Zina Garrison, Sydney Llewellyn, and Bud Collins at Wimbledon in the 1980s. In 1990, Zina Garrison reached the title match at Wimbledon, making her the first Black woman to compete in a Grand Slam final since Althea Gibson won at U.S. Nationals at Forest Hills in 1958. The All-England Club flew Gibson to Wimbledon to watch the match. Arthus Ashe, the first Black man to win Wimbledon in 1975, covered the tournament that year for HBO.
