Humberto Campana was born in Rio Claro (São Paulo, Brazil), in 1953, and Fernando Campana was born in Brotas (São Paulo, Brazil), in 1961. In 1983, they started to design objects together, made from scrap, wood scraps, cardboard, rope and other materials. Their first solo exhibition entitled "Desconfortáveis" ("Uncomfortables") took place in 1989 at the Nucleon Gallery, in São Paulo. In 1998, they were invited to attend The Milan Furniture Fair -, where they exhibited the artwork "Cadeira Vermelha" ("Red Chair" 1993-1998), a structure made of woven metal and 300 meters of rope. After that, their works started to be recognized and ended up receiving an invititation to exhibit at Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, becoming the first Brazilian artists to do so. From then on, they started working with several brands, such as Edra, Fontana Arte, Venini, Vitra, Melissa and Tok&Stok. In 1997, Humberto and Fernando were awarded with the 1st Award of Brazilian Association of Furniture Industry, in the Residencial Furniture category for their artwork "Mesa Inflável" ("Inflatable Table"). Afterward, they won the Designer of the Year at Design Miami (2008) and Designer of the Year from Maison & Object, in Paris (2012). Currently, their work is being displayed at several museums around the world, including The Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, Pinakothek der Moderne in Munique and the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris. Today, they live in São Paulo, where the Studio Campana is located.
