Amethyst geode

During the evolution of rocks a layer can sometimes cool down very slowly. Air bubbles are formed during this process. Often minerals develop in the empty spaces. Such a filled-up space is called a geode.

This geode is filled with amethyst. This mineral is a chemical compound of silicon and oxygen. If the crystal is contaminated with iron then it acquires a beautiful purple color.
