This thangka depicts Amitabha seated in front of a bo tree and surrounded by a large number of attendants, including Avalokitesvara, Mahasthamaprata (or Vajrapani) and the other Eight Great Bodhisattvas. A distinctive feature of this thangka is that the pavilion behind Amitabha is indistinct while the bo tree has been depicted in a particularly sumptuous manner. In addition, the lotus pond in which the faithful are reborn is surrounded by an imposing wall with gateways, and even stages have been set up in the pond. The necklaces hanging from the bo tree are also rather ornate, and originally the entire thangka would have been quite dazzling.
