Amygdaloid sealstone

Amygdaloid sealstone of rock crystal with plain back and a string-hole in the longitudinal axis. The engraving depicts a running "agrimi" (wild goat) looking over its back. The large eye has been rendered with a drill mark. Similar drill marks and a floral element have been used as accessorial motifs.The sealstone is attributed to a workshop conventionally termed the "Spectacle-Eye group". The products of this workshop are characterized by the conventionalized anatomy of the animals, the articulation of joints with dots and the large circular eyes which are made by the hollow drill and look like wearing spectacles. Seals decorated in that style come mainly from Crete and date to the Late Minoan III A and B periods (14th-13th c. BC).
