Drawn on parchment backed with linen and hand colored, this map was created for the Aston family, whose coat of arms are shown in the top right corner. The scale of this map is 1:4000. At the bottom right a small pair of dividers is held over the scale in the hand of an eighteenth century gentleman, possibly a self-portrait of the surveyor, Matthew Aston.
The draftsmanship is somewhat crude but it includes attractively colourful, naive decoration, including an ornate border design of floral bouquets. There are little vignettes drawn within Risley Park, including deer, cows, figures of a man with gun, a man feeding a horse and a ladder propped against a tree.
