The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) began assisting needy members of the Jewish Yishuv in Palestine at its founding in 1914. Since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, Jews from around the world have immigrated there, many with the assistance of JDC. In Israel, JDC helped the young nation confront the challenges posed by massive numbers of new immigrants by creating a network of social welfare facilities and services to provide for their needs.
