The first and only colour film of Saarland radio (produced by the subsidiary company Telefilm Saar) was a complete success, and not only due to the latest transmission technology. The film, broadcast throughout Germany on the day of penance and prayer in 1967, achieved audience ratings that are otherwise only achieved by coverage of football matches and quiz shows. The director Truck Branss (1926 to 2005) arranged the Saar Miners' Choir in front of numerous Saarland landscapes which related to the mining industry. Lavishly staged photographs, like those at the beginning of the film, in front of the monument to casualties of the pit accident in Luisenthal in 1962 earned the film high praise.
