Anderton Boat Lift, Anderton with Marbury, Cheshire West and Chester

The Anderton Boat Lift is the world's first commercially successful boat lift. It was built in 1875 to provide a fifteen metre vertical link between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal. It closed in 1983 but reopened in 2002 following extensive restoration.
