This unusual dress accessory, known as a hooked-tag, is made from a silver penny of King Cnut; the coin itself being struck in Derby. It seems to have been a popular fashion in the 11th century to make jewellery, mostly brooches, from coins. This object was reported Treasure through the Portable Antiquities Scheme (WMID-2DA711).
