Museo Casa del Mendrugo
Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza, Mexico

The pre-Columbian cultures that inhabited this country during prehispanic times regarded the green stone as the most precious and sacred gift of nature. With it, they elaborated objects that were critical in the rituals of the oldest inhabitants. The Olmec culture was the first to achieve a high cultural development in Mesoamerica from 2000 BC and 200 A.D. The Olmec style, considered to be the role model, spread throughout Mesoamerica. An example of this cultural influence, human figurines were offered up to a high-ranking individual in the village inhabited around 1500 BC, in the place where today La Casa del Mendrugo is located.
