This hammered silver coin features the image of Saloninus who was appointed Caesar in 258 and sent to Gaul (a region of Western Europe inhabited by Celtic tribes, encompassing present day France, Luxembourg, Belgium, most of Switzerland, and parts of Northern Italy, the Netherlands and Germany.) After significant military discontent, troops loyal to him proclaimed him emperor in 260. He was killed the same year.
