Applique

Gilded terracotta applique depicting a semi-reclining bare-chested male figure, covered by a cloak; in his right hand he holds a drinking horn and he is flanked by a column on which is a calyx-krater. Similar appliques, arranged in friezes incorporating a range of subjects, were used for the decoration of wooden sarcophagi. The figure was part of a frieze with a Dionysian theme.
