During the 19th century, the property fell into the hands of the Hainguerlot family, and the gardens underwent considerable change: they were transformed into a romantic English style park. This type of grounds became fashionable in the late 19th century under the impulse of the Romantic Movement, and required much less maintenance than a French style garden. It was presumably for both these reasons that the Hainguerlot family decided to change to a landscape of winding paths, curves and clusters of trees and shrubs.
