Dinosaurs ruled the earth and Pteroaurus were dominating the skies when this fish was swimming into the depths of cretaceous seas. It is an extinct genus of prehistoric fish belonging to the ray finned family, so called because their fins were made of skin and were sustained by fan shaped bony spines. The genus takes its name by Araripe basin where it was found.
