In 1978 Atari released the video arcade game Avalanche. Avalanche's black-and-white graphics, geometric shapes, and straightforward objective are representative of the alluring simplicity of 1970s video games. In this one or two-person game, the player controls a stack of paddles and must catch boulders falling from the top of the screen. As the game continues, the player is given fewer and smaller paddles. Avalanche was recreated in 1981 as the popular game Kaboom! for the Atari VCS.
