A small number of archaeological remains were found close to the Apostle's Shrine during excavations at the end of the 19th century, including the remnants of some paving, some small beads, and a type of glass pendant. These items, all associated with the original shrine, reveal how it has changed over time, and the different layers that now surround it.
The small size of the fragments and the absence of data on where they were found makes it difficult to date them accurately. However, Acuña Castroviejo's hypothesis, placing them between the 4th and 5th centuries, is the most widely accepted.
