New platforms had to be built at Waterloo station to serve the Jubilee Line Extension (J.L.E.). This model shows a cross-section through the new platform and track. The design includes glazed platform-edge door screens and integrated wall seating. The doors act as a safety feature and prevent dirt and rubbish from being blown onto the track from the platform. Such doors had been used before in other city metro systems, but this was their first appearance in London.
