The Monastery's Library holds more than thirty books from the press of the famous printer Aldus Manutius - among which six editiones principes. The publication of Aristophanes' Comedies was made in collaboration with Markos Mousouros (1470-1515), editor of the work, Manutius' assistant and scientific advisor and prominent scholar of the Renaissance.
The text is full of handwritten notes concerning syntax and grammatical phenomena, by Makarios Kaloyeras and Gerasimos Byzantios. These were eminent figures of the Monastery: Makarios was the founder of the Patmian School (1713), one of the most important cultural centres of the eastern Mediterranean during he 18th century, and Gerasimos was his pupil and successor as director of the School (1737).
