"This piece of furniture is a clear example of the typology of Catalan chests made during the 16th century. Chests are quite probably the only type of furniture that make it possible to establish a continuous sequence of their evolution from the 14th to the 19th centuries.
The decoration is mainly on the bottom part. Mouldings have been applied to divide the chest into compartments, made up of three panels on the front of the chest and a panel on each side. The front panels are separated by applying two latticed tracery motifs. Each motif has been carved from a single piece of wood and they represent four identical windows grouped together by two rosettes with floral motifs, finished on the sides with the moulding that limits the bottom part of the side panels and both sides of the centre panel. In the centre of each panel on the chest there are two rhombuses, one inside the other, also made up of applied moulding work.
Chests were pieces of furniture that were placed next to walls, which is why there is no work on the back and during this period, besides being used as containers, they could be used as seats or, if they were large enough, as beds, according to documents from the period."
