There were samples of five pieces of furniture sent out for wood identification in 1979/1980; the results were handwritten on a memo (now in the historical files, including for 80.160); this chair is probably #2 on that list, which includes the handwritten note "true mahogany / (Switetenia)"; however, only the secondary wood sample was sent, and it is unclear if a primary wood could be walnut; therefore, left Medium and Support as it is: "laminated and carved mahogany or walnut" (Rebecca McNamara, Curatorial Coordinator, 10/15/2015).
