This suit of armor was owned by the 4th lord of the Yanagawa Domain. The cuirass was constructed with two plates that are arranged vertically and fastened at either side of the body. There remain two suits of armor owned by the lord. Both of them are embossed with dragons.
This armor was made as a dignified symbol of the feudal lord, not for practical use. All the metal parts were elaborately made with shakudo (an alloy of copper and gold) which produces a beautiful purplish black sheen.
The full suit of armor was made in the 18th century, but only the protective part of the helmet was made in the 16th century.
