Archival Item on Dr. Rakhmabai, India’s first practising lady doctor in 1894. She pursued her studies in London after a lenghty and much publicised court case that concluded in the creation of the Age of Consent Act in 1891. This was a landmark in Indian society that helped raise the legal age of consent from 10 to 12 years.
