Witt Painter and Florence 3797

The J. Paul Getty Museum
Los Angeles, United States

Side A: Herakles seated between Hermes and Athena. Herakles is seated to right on an okladias with a slanted cushion and feline feet; he wears his lion skin over a short chiton. Athena stands before him, facing left and holding a spear and shield with a sphinx blazon. Behind Herakles, Hermes walks to the left, and looks back over his shoulder. Hermes wears a narrow-brimmed hat, a sleeveless short chiton, and winged boots. Side B: Athena between two men, perhaps gods. The man at the left holds a spear and may be Zeus; both men wear the same garment: a striped and decorated himation over a long chiton.
