Geoscience Australia

The sand grains that make up this specimen of the Camp Hill Sandstone Member of the Canberra Formation were derived from the weathering of older rocks. The sandstone is Middle Silurian in age and approximately 425 million years old.

This sedimentary rock has been used throughout Canberra for landscaping, face cuttings and embankments. It has a good working face for extraction of suitably sized blocks.
